PicturePicture (968) Check - Live Stock State Bank - Serbian Benevolent Society - SV. SAVA Lodge No 31 - May 8, 1923- Condition: Very Good This interesting check has a great Cow Face Vignette. The Serbian Benevolent Society Lodge No. 31, was located in South St Paul, Minnesota. This organization was founded nationally (New York) in 1869 and was the Oldest Serbian organization in America. This organization often provided needed life insurance for immigrants. The check was made out to: Mite Jovacich and was written byy Peter Tomovich. It was folded once and has the cancellation dots in the check. The check measures 8" by 3".

Picture (969) Check - First National Bank - Pueblo, Colorado - Eads, Kiowa Co., Colorado - November 17, 1919 - Condition: Very Good There is a beautiful Vignette of intertwined initials on this western check. It was made out in the amount of $347.24 and is a company check from Eads, Kiowa Co., in Colorado. It was folded once and has the cancellation dots. The check measures 8 1/2" by 3 1/2". Picture (970) Check - First National Bank - Kansas City, Missouri - Eads, Kiowa Co., Colorado - December 15, 1917. - Condition: Very Good There is a beautiful Vignette of intertwined initials on this western check. It was made out in the amount of $114.28 and is a company check from Eads, Kiowa Co., in Colorado. It was folded twice and has the cancellation dots. The check measures 8 1/4" by 3 1/4". Picture (1906) Check - L. S. Lawrence & Co. Bankers - New York - February 12, 1875. - Condition: Excellant Was made out to Schroder & Bon for $142.00. It has an InterRev stamp with a hand date written across the top. A listing for the bankers says they bought and sold gold, securities, stocks and also dealt with drafts from England, Ireland and Scotland. Charles Frazier and F.E. Williams were the general partners. Mr. Frank E. Williams died on March 16, 1882 of heart disease at the age of 54. In 1845 Mr. Williams was a general trader with the Native Americans at the Choctaw Indian Agency in Arkansas. He joined L.S Lawrence in 1871. The check measures 7 1/2" by 2 1/2". Picture (1907) Check - Pacific Bank - New York - January 3, 1872. - Condition: Excellant Was made out to New York Life In. for the amount of $350. It was signed by Edward T. McCoy. It has an InterRev stamp with a hand date written across the top. There was an article in the New York Times in 1882 stating that Col. Needham, the bank examiner received instructions from Controller Knox to turn the bank to the Directors and it may resume business. The check measures 7" by 2 1/2". Price: $7.00 + shipping.

Picture (1908) Check - The Oriental Bank - New York - March 6, 1874. - Condition: Excellant Was made out to bearer in the amount of $50.00. It was signed by Edward T. McCoy. It has an InterRev stamp with a hand date written across the top. The Oriental Bank was a Mid Sized New York bank founded in 1853. The check measures 7" by 2 1/2". Price: $7.00 + shipping.

Picture (1909) Check - L. S. Lawrence & Co. Bankers - New York - December 11, 1873. - Condition: Excellant Was made out to Palmer & Scoville for $200.00. It has an InterRev stamp with a hand date written across the top. A listing for the bankers says they bought and sold gold, securities, stocks and also dealt with drafts from England, Ireland and Scotland. Charles Frazier and F.E. Picture (1963) Check - State Bank of Apopka- Orange County - Apopka, Florida - May 31, 1919. - Condition: Excellent The check is made out to Gust Jackson for $13.12. It has a beautiful and colorful logo showing oranges and flowers. The check measures 6" by 2 1/2", and is endorsed on the back with Gust Jackson's signature. On February 12, 1912, the State Bank of Apopka, Orange County's oldest surviving bank, opened for business on land donated by S.W. Eldredge. This bank had the first depository window in Central Florida. The recipient of the check, Gust Jackson served on the board of trade, was an early bus driver, co-owned the Piedmont winery, and owned the general merchandise store. Gust, came to the area about 1889 after trying to make it rich digging for gold in California. Price: $12.00 + shipping.

PicturePicture (1978) Check - The Bank of North Collins- New York - April 26, 1897 - Seneca Nation. - Condition: Excellant This check is from the Seneca Nation of Indians. It is filled out and signed by T. F. Jamerson, Jr. who was the treasurer of the Seneca Nation. The check was made out to Rebecca Harris for the amount of $1.40. She endorsed the check on the back. The Seneca Nation of Indians is the largest of six Native American nations in New York State which comprised the Iroquois Confederacy or Six Nations, a democratic government that pre-dates the United States Constitution. They are known as "Keeper of the Western Door". An article in the Buffalo Express Newspaper on May 26, 1897 states that Mr. Jamerson was newly elected president of the Seneca Nation. He was in Buffalo meeting about the Nation's inquiry as to the title of the Seneca Church and Indian Burial ground in that city. It was stated that he was to be inaugurated as president at the council house the following Tuesday. Rebecca Harris was listed as a resident of the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation in 1890. The check measures 7 1/2" by 3".





Insurance Papers and Items



Picture (654) American Surety Company - 1928 - Bond- Condition: Excellent. This Bond was issued to the Town of Sterling, Mass. It was written on March 24, 1928, and signed on April 3, 1928. The bond was in the amount of $1,000.00. The American Surety Company was based out of New York. H. Prentice Kendall, the Treasurer of the Sterling Water District was the one receiving the Bond for 1 year. This bond measures 8 1/2" by 11" when unfolded. It has not yellowed or darkened and is in wonderful condition. Price: $6.00 + shipping.

Picture (955) Prudential Matchbook Sewing Kit - 1965 - Celebrating their 90th year. -Condition: Excellent Gold cover with black print showing the Prudential Building - Our 90th year - and the dates 1875 to 1965. The sewing kit has never been used and includes needles, buttons, thread, and a safety pin. Price: $6.00 + shipping.

Picture (994) 1931- Twin Mutual Liability Insurance Company - Motor Vehicle Liability Policy. -Condition: Excellent Issued to Harrison W. Rugg. Policy opens to standard size with three sheets attached at top. Also attached to policy is a Consequential Damages Endorsement. The policy was on Mr. Rugg's 1929 Chevrolet 4-door Sedan. Insurance company was based in Boson. Mr. Rugg lived in Sterling, MA. In 1921 the town of Sterling purchaced its first mechanized fire truck. H.W. Rugg was the mechanic for the truck and frequently drove it to fires. Mr. Rugg was born in: 1881. Price: $8.00 + shipping.

Picture (995) 1927-30 - Fitchburg Mutual Fire Insurance Company - Policy. -Condition: Very Good Issued to Harrison W. Rugg. Policy opens to standard size with sheets attached at top. Also included is a loose receipt of payment issued to Mr. Rugg by C. G. Stevens & Son. . The policy was on Mr. Rugg's Home, Garage, and Wagon Shed. There is some darkening down the center of the cover. Inside sheets are in excellent condition. Mr. Rugg lived in Sterling, MA. and C. G. Stevens & Son were located in Clinton, MA. In 1921 the town of Sterling purchaced its first mechanized fire truck. H.W. Rugg was the mechanic for the truck and frequently drove it to fires. Mr. Rugg was born in: 1881. Picture (1607) 1933 & 1934 - The Massachusetts Protective Association - Letterheads - Worcester, MA. -Condition: Very Good Letterheads measure 8 1/2" by 11" and have been folded. These two letterheads were sent to Mr. Harrison W. Rugg who lived in Sterling, MA. The first letter dated December 27, 1933 discussed the lapse of Mr. Rugg's policy. It explains that it was non-cancellable. Then goes on to try to get him to reinstate his policy. The second letter is dated, January, 4 1934. It stated they had received Mr. Rugg's letter. Evidently Mr. Rugg mentioned the large amount that was required for the premium, as they explain it can be paid in quarterly payments. Stated he had changed his occupation but did not tell them what he is doing at the time. The Massachusetts Protective Association began in 1895 as the Masonic Protective Association. It supplied insurance to Masons only. Due to mounting suspicions of fraternal organizations the company was renamed The Massachusetts Protective Association in 1922, but still dealt only with members of the Masonic Lodge. In 1904 Mr. Rugg was involved with a patten for a Cheese-cutter. Price: $10.00 + shipping.

PicturePicture (1756) Manual of Compensation and Liability Insurance - Rules and Rates - Maryland - 1911. - Condition: Good Plus This hardback manual has 123 pages of information about insurance rates, codes, what is covered, what is not covered, etc. for Maryland in 1911. Some interesting items mentioned are Libraries when they are showing "Moving Pictures", one horse buggies for transportation for Doctors, and automobiles. Elevators are also mentioned. This is a rare and facinating look back at the Insurance Business almost 100 years ago. The book measures 5 1/4" by 7 1/2". the outside cover has some outer scraping on the cloth, inside pages are in Very Good Condition. The book was compiled by Stanley Otis - Actuary. Picture (1927) Insurance Renewal Bill - C. G. Stevens & Son - Clinton, Mass - April 10, 1930. Condition: Excellant Typed billt to: H. W. Rugg for $21.97. This gave him $2250 worth of coverage. Included in the insurance was Mr. Rugg's house, garage and wagonshed. Bill measures 5 1/2 " by 8 1/2". Price: $5.00 + shipping.

Picture (1004) National Geographic - 1988 - Supplement Map - Endangered Earth- Condition: Excellent. A wonderful Map that folds out to 45" by 28". One side has smaller maps of different areas of the globe, showing different important eras ( Ice Age, Greenhouse Effect, Etc). There is also a great deal of written imformation on this side. The other side of this wonderful supplement, has a full sized World Map. This would be a wonderful addition to any Classroom studying Ecology, or for an individual report. Price: $6.00 + shipping. Picture (1047) National Geographic - December 1940 - Supplement Map - US, Canada and Mexico with Civil Defense Insert. - Condition: Very Good. Detailed Map showing each country. The census records of the larger cities was included on this map. Also interesting to note, there is a small insert that shows information on the civil defense of the US. Considering the date of the Map - December 1940, is an interesting historical map. The insert map shows the Grouping of Infantry Divisions into Corps and of Corps into Field Armies state by state.
