(924) Circa 1868 - American Tract Society - Tract Number 101 - Rev. Daniel A. Clark (1779 to 1840) - True Believer Bountiful- Condition: Good + Wonderful copy of a Booklet distributed by the Americn Tract Society. The Tract measures 4 1/4" by 7 1/4" and has 20 pages. The title of the tract is True Believer Bountiful. The pages are in great condition. The cover has darkened and has a stain on the right side. Age is estimated by the fact that it was found with a group of papers from 1868. Rev. Clark was a prominent Presbyterian minister. His son Dr. James Henry Clark (18148-1869) was a prominent physcian who edited a book containing his father's works. Rev. Clark was on the board of trustees of Amherst Academy in 1820. The original American Tract Society began in Boston in 1814. In 1825 it merged with the New York Religious Tract Socity to form a new organization. In 1859 a major break occurred between the two factions of the American Tract Society over the issue of publishing tracts which concerned "the sin of slavery". Boston and New York began publishing seperately. They rejoined briefly in 1868, seperated again in 1869, and rejoined in 1878.
