Picture(642)Martha Washington Miniature - Handpainted on Milkglass - 1932 - Lost for 50 years! -Condition: Excellent In Praque, Czechoslovakia, in 1932, the world-famous Bhohemian milk glass artisans planned an exciting tribute to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of George Washington - esquisite hand painted portraits of George Washington, Martha Washington, and the couple together. Creating the milk glass itself in perfect 3 centimeter ovals was a demanding task. (about 1 1/8 inches) Before the collection was finished, political unrest rocked the European World and these beautiful miniatures were hidden away, and eventually vanished. Mendel Peterson, American Museum Curator, author and historian, found 1 set of the 3 portraits at a European's Art Dealer. He acquired the entire lot which was only 1,500 of all 3 as a set, 3,300 George Washington alone, and 2,150 portraits of Martha Washington. This miniature is one of the 2,150 portraits discovered after 50 years of hiding! Price: $42.00 + shipping.
